Flying Old Glory!

I made sure I would be ready to fly Old Glory on Memorial Day to honor and pay tribute to the women and men who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country, our people and our freedom.

Yesterday, I inspected the Made in the USA flag, pole and mounting kit parts I bought last month. Then, I lined up the few tools and hardware I needed to install the flag pole’s aluminum cast mount on the stone column at the entrance of our home.

Surprisingly, it took me only 30 minutes to install the base. First, I identified the location for the mount I felt comfortable with to avoid obstruction with the carriage light once the flag pole is mounted. Then, I measured and centered the flag pole mount on the column and marked the location of the mounting screws and traced the footprint of the mount over the stone to flatten the area a bit for a more stable fit.

I used a Tapcon 5/32″ x 3-1/2″ masonry drill bit to drill the three holes for the 3/16″ x 1-3/4″ Tapcon masonry anchor screws. I placed a 3/16″ socket on my Makita cordless drill to drive the hex head screws and screw the pole moun tightly against the stone. Solid fit!

First thing this morning, I carefully hooked Old Glory’s loops onto the pole and mounted it on the stand in front of our home where it now proudly flies free.

I hope this quick DiY project encourages you to find the time and a way to install a flag pole mount at your home and proudly fly Old Glory.

To the women and men in uniform, I thank you for your service.

May God Bless you, your families and the United States of America.
